Fateful Love and Sorrow

They were the most romantic and well-matched couple in the eyes of the people around! The boy cared a lot about the girl and was also very obedient to the girl. The girl was also very sweet and good at acting coquettishly. But one day, in the shocked eyes, tears slowly filled, and she slapped him hard across the face and left without looking back.

“Let’s break up. We shouldn't see each other anymore.” These were the last words she said to him. Though his heart ached, he gritted his teeth and nodded, replying with a simple, “Okay…”

In his eyes, shock was evident, and tears began to form. She slapped him hard across the face and walked away without looking back.

Returning home, she threw all the gifts he had given her into the trash, as if she could throw away his memory as well. As she looked at the mess in her room, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. In her sobs, it felt as if she had lost everything.

They had once been the most romantic and perfect couple in the eyes of those around them. The boy cared deeply for the girl and was very obedient to her, while the girl was sweet and knew how to be charming. If she wanted the stars in the sky, he would find a way to bring them to her. Because of this, many people envied her love, and she was often talked about behind her back. To avoid her suffering, the boy frequently got into fights. She always tried to console him, saying, "Let them talk. We shouldn't care." But he would always respond, "You don't understand!"

As time went on, the girl's academic performance improved, gaining the admiration of her teachers and the attention of many boys. The boy, however, struggled with his studies and felt increasingly distant from her. Three years later, she was admitted to a prestigious university, but he, due to his poor grades, did not continue his education. She decided to take a break from school for his sake, and their relationship grew closer, eventually leading to them living together.

One night, while he was asleep, a message came to his phone: "I miss you." When she confronted him about it, he had nothing to say. They had a fierce argument, and she kicked him out. He never appeared in her life again.

At a bar, he met her good friend Lily, who drank with him and soon became his new partner. Years passed. One day, he and Lily ran into the girl at a hotel. He chatted with her about the past few years. Lily was furious, accusing him of flirting with the girl. Unable to bear it, he argued with Lily. She then revealed the truth: she had sent that message years ago, knowing it would cause their breakup, because she loved him and was willing to use any means to have him. The boy regretted it deeply. Lily knew he had never truly loved her; his heart had always belonged to the girl. He decided, "Next month is her birthday. I’ll buy a ring and propose to her. I hope she can forgive me."

That very day, he bought the ring he wanted. But on his way to her house, the most tragic thing happened—a car accident. As he lay dying, he wished he could see her one last time. Miraculously, his wish came true. In her sleep, she heard his voice and woke up groggily to find him sitting beside her. Though still angry, he held her tightly and said, “Don’t say anything, just listen. We won’t be together anymore, but you must take care of yourself. You don’t like breakfast, but you need to eat to stay healthy. Promise me that.” With those words, he turned and left. She wanted to stop him, but her anger held her back, thinking she would forgive him later.

The next day, she received the news of his accident. Rushing to the hospital, she was confronted with his lifeless body covered by a white sheet. Her heart shattered. She couldn’t believe it. Crying out, she said, “You promised to stay with me.” She shook his cold, rigid body, but he would never hold her again. A faint sound caught her attention—a ring fell from his hand. As she looked at the ring, she understood that the person who had wanted to give it to her, the one who had promised a lifetime, could never fulfill that promise.
